The beach was hive of activity in the last days, as members of the aquafun installation crew started putting various elements into the calm water just off the soon-to-be-opened Rascal’s Restaurant, which is partnering with this project.

Water Park to open at Brandons

Barbadians and visitors will have access to a new large water park shortly. The entertainment project, worth approx. $500,000, is being constructed at the popular Brandons Beach along the Mighty Grynner Highway by aquafun – a water sports company out of Germany, which brings this business to Barbados.

Yesterday, workers were putting finishing touches on several rides which are expected to draw large crowds from this month. The park features a JUNIOR LINE on the inside, and a larger OCEAN LINE on the outside.

Robert Myers, team leader and operator of Rascals Water Park Inc. said: “I’ve been working on this project for five years and now we finally have it.” And further on: “I’m very proud tom present what will be the largest water park in the Caribbean. It’s German designed and quality controlled, and I have done it for the people. When the tourists come back, they can share it as well. But first and foremost, it’s the people’s park.”

Myers also said: “We will make it affordable and be offering family memberships and discounts. We will work with the old, the young, colleges, everybody. I’m looking forward to a wonderful partnership with Barbados.” The owner further explained, aquafun will use the partnership to showcase its water park in the Caribbean.

Nigel Thomas from the aquafun crew explained, aquafun has checked many beach locations on the west coast, but Brandons in St. Michael stood out because it was beautiful, stunning and a great site since cruise line passengers from the nearby Bridgetown Port could be easily facilitated. “We’ve met a lot of nice guys working here as lifeguards. And Rascals itself will be opening soon, so it will be great for the local economy and tourism,” Nigel said.
