A “Canyon” on tour – but absolutely involuntarily…

At the end of August, elements of the aquafun OCEAN LINE from the PLAYALAND AQUAPARK in Nigrán, Spain actually had to prove their seaworthiness on the Atlantic Ocean. The "Canyon" in particular made a long involuntary journey and caused a great commotion…

Vandalism or Sabotage

After the night watch had informed the aquafunpark operators early in the morning that at least 5 elements had become detached from the park, they and many helpers immediately started a search. Two elements had been driven ashore, another in the direction of Playa America and another one was found in Baiona. The 5th element disappeared. Many helpers searched an area of almost 15 km all day – without success. The operators already feared that the element must have sunk. Nevertheless, they called a drone pilot to fly over the area and help with the search.

What the Spanish press reported: An inflatable, floating “object” of large dimensions set off an alarm on one of the lifeboats on the coast of Guardesa. Salvamento Marítimo requested the help of rescue measures over 112 Galicia in order to have the status of the object checked. This initially led to confusion among the emergency services. Because for a long time they believed that the element from the water park could be a rubber dinghy and that even human life was at risk. A rescue helicopter was even called in and brought a Salvamar Rescue Team to the area. The Nigrán water police later informed the operators of the PLAYALAND AQUAPARK that the last missing element had just been found near the town A Guarda – no less than 35 km from the original location…

Accident? Never.

It quickly became clear that it wasn't an accident. The aquafunpark had often withstood strong winds and waves up to 3 meters. Weather conditions much worse than that Saturday evening. In addition, the installation of the park was done at the time by professional divers and certified by an engineer. The placement of anchors and ropes was always absolutely correct. Well – and 26 ropes don't all break at the same time. Another proof of willful vandalism or even sabotage is that all ropes have straight cut edges in the same places.

A “Canyon” on tour – but absolutely involuntarily…

The “aquafun Canyon” is now back home again and part of the PLAYALAND AQUAPARK.

The operators of the park thank all helpers and the official rescue teams for their commitment and now hope that the perpetrator or perpetrators will be found and receive their fair punishment.
